Miguel was born and raised in Del Rio, Texas, and left for the big city of San Antonio for ten (10) years. They returned to Del Rio to see what kind of resources they could bring back with them. Miguel has a BFA in Media Arts and Animation from The Art Institute of San Antonio, Texas. He comes to us with a heavy background in Community Health Education. He is passionate and dedicated to promoting health and wellness. Miguel has a proven track record developing and implementing health education programs for diverse populations, delivering engaging presentations to groups consisting of 100 people using multimedia tools and interactive activities.
Miguel had the honor of performing a forum theatre project reenacting some of the most difficult moments San Antonio residents living with HIV have gone through alongside Trinity University traveling throughout the city and spreading awareness.
Miguel worked alongside the University of Texas Health to develop an app for San Antonio residents living with HIV improving the user experience and updating it to a more accessible language for everyday users.
Miguel has also helped HealthMpowerment as an app tester. The app will provide access to HIV specialists who can answer questions without the use of insurance to the residents of Maryland and more.
Miguel accomplished increased results in participant engagement and knowledge retention as a Community Health Educator and Advocate. Miguel is skilled in creating educational materials, conducting needs assessments, health equity & social justice, delivering presentations, community engagement, curriculum design, and is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Fun Fact: Miguel wants to represent SAC to make sure grassroots organizations in the South feel heard and aide in creating stepping stones of impact to healthcare accessibility.
